Safety Communication Module The specific purpose of the Safety Communication Module (SCM) is to ensure that the communication between the anemometer and the computer in the safety tower actually occur, and to shut down the wind turbine operation if a communication fault occurs. The safety nacelle and safety tower of a wind turbine are protected by hardware redundancy – usually implemented as the so-called ‘hot standbys. However, the communication between the safety nacelle and the safety tower – managed by a SCM at each end-point – is vulnerable. Developers of SCMs are concerned with the risk that a wind turbine computer may not receive information about critical wind speeds. With Biomicore’s technology the SCM based system can continue operation unabated and without need for unscheduled repair.
